    Apropos of the correlation between emotional events and the onset of pain symptoms. In retrospect, I sure notice how my so called herniated disk came on out running frantically in 2002 in the aftermath of my late mother's passing and in the wake of losing a lucrative ISO contract. At the time though, I accepted the structural diagnosis and dutifully put myself through six-months of PT and stretching, which pretty much kept me occupied and distracted from the pain in my legs and hips. However, I notice now that my pain vanished when I started going to the climbing gym again and socializing with a group of friends right after I got a big check from my father's wrongful death asbestos law suit. Coming back to life? At the time though I didn't notice the strong correlation between these powerful emotional life events and figured I was just healing up from a structural disk injury. Wish I'd had a PT at the time who pointed out the strong correlation between emotional events and my pain symptoms. Would have healed up quicker with less residual pain episodes if I'd read Sarno or someone else in the Mind-Body orbit. Knowledge is the key obviously.

    I’m curious if you are still monitoring comments on this video? It looks like good info, but I’m wondering if the exercises can aggregate the nodules and make it worse. I’m a CrossFitter just turned 48. I have nodules in both pinkies. No contraction and I’ve probably had the one in my left hand for at least a decade, but it has gotten a little bigger. They follow the lines of calluses on my hands. I’m curious if anyone else has had long term success following the techniques. The mainstream view seems to be leave it alone, use needle therapy, or surgery.

    I’m so frustrated when you say make sure the pain is not structural. Dr. Sarno says spondylolisthesis, herniated disc, stenosis is not what is causing the pain. Then what is considered a structural problem? Can you please explain this.

    • @charliemerrill
      @charliemerrill 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for clarifying Joe. My goal is certainly to educate and not frustrate, but sometimes things get lost in translation. Structural problems include things like bone fracture, cancer, sometimes, severe osteoarthritis, neuropathic conditions, Vascular issues, diabetes and other organ conditions, multiple sclerosis, infections, etc. It’s probably more accurate medical conditions. John Sarno was very thorough about rolling out structural and medical conditions before he made a diagnosis of TMS. Those of us that worked with him to practice this way. The worst fear of any medical provider is treating something as TMS when there’s actually something structural going on. Your describing what we call normative physical findings are not structural and that’s not the cause of pain.

      Na. Often feels better after light movement. High intensity movement can make things more sensitive and prolong the soreness but I found it better to move the not move. Definitely not dangerous either way.

    I have scoliosis right side thoracic curve , left side lumbar curve, my left rib is out of alignment. I have seen many Doctors who specialize in one area of the body thus missing the point that the body functions as a whole, I have spent thousands on Amazon looking for the perfect tool to relieve my pain until finally I had to learn the anatomy of the body. I have researched and researched, watch tons of videos , read medical reviews but this video was simple. I immediately rushed to Amazon to buy the bands because the other methods, belt, towel, lacrosse ball etc wasn’t giving me the compression I needed. Thanks for the video it helps us all that have been dismissed by the medical field at large. I have spent so much money on massages, equipment and chiropractors but this allows me to get relief even when I don’t have disposable income.

    Ive a lump at A1 (palm just below finger) that Ive had for years, used to climb a lot and remember injuring it. It feels a little tight and tender and I always thought it was solid, after trying the 'pin and pinch' its made a noticeable difference, seems to have flattened and softened somewhat, which I can barley believe lol. Gonna keep that one up and see how goes.

    I was told I have lumbar stenosis when I start walking or running the pain and tingling in my legs and feet come on gradually, is this still generated by the brain or am I doing any damage by Continuing ?

    • @charliemerrill
      @charliemerrill 6 месяцев назад

      Joe it’s a hard question to answer without an exam. Symptom behavior is an important important piece of evidence, but not the only one. Many people have stenosis and have no pain pain. It’s a normal part of aging and not pathological most of the time. Many people with lumbar stenosis find relief when they mobilize their thoracic spine and open up their hips, especially in the front. Technically all pain comes from the brain, but only a small percentage of pain is influenced by information coming from damaged tissue and the body. we make a diagnosis by ruling out the body and then ruling in the brain and nervous system as the primary cause some thoughtful detective work. I’m happy to consult with you if you’re interested.

    My 8yr old daughter is having nodes just below the thumb finger. And her thumb doesnt stretch outward. At times it makes some movement which is painful for her. I did very light handed massage below the thumb after my ortho friend's suggestion but it worsened the next day. Now I see her node is moving to other direction. I wonder whether that massage was good or should I stop and get the surgery done as prescribed by the Ortho. Can you pls guide? Also would like to share tat she is a basketer, she loves gymnastic, classical dance and an artist as well!! Not sure if too much of pressure has gone into it - I do remember her telling me, that the thumb got hurt. But dont think it is something by birth, though!!

    I found out today that my lumbar multifitus muscle has atrophied. Lots of fat. The Pain dr , after physical therapy and radio frequency ablation, (and thousands of dollars, after insurance) is now looking once again at my mri that I had months ago and have determined that the multifitus muscle has atrophied. I will now go back to physical therapy where they can teach me exercises to strengthen that muscle. I could have done this in the beginning. I have ms btw and pain dr said that muscle atrophy can be a symptom. Would you have any thoughts on what I should do?

    • @charliemerrill
      @charliemerrill 6 месяцев назад

      Multifudus atrophy and fatty infiltration is usually a symptom of something else. Most back pain and sequelae is mostly a byproduct of stress and fear. That said, manual therapy (manipulation, dry needling, and activation exercise) can help. Follow me on instagram for a more modern take on pain science and to learn how to navigate. Happy to consult with you.
